From Garden Beds to Business Goals: What My Lettuce Taught Me

After my usual 3-mile jog this afternoon, I stepped into my backyard and smiled...

Almost overlooked in the daily shuffle, the lettuce I planted weeks ago is flourishing. Vibrant green, full of life, and quietly expanding without a word of praise.

And it struck me: this is exactly how building a business feels.

When I first started Inner Beauty Gifts, I thought success would come quickly if I just worked hard enough. But just like gardening, entrepreneurship teaches you that growth is rarely instant. You prepare the soil. You plant the seed. And then... you wait.

You check every day, and nothing seems to happen.

Then, one day—almost without warning—something green peeks through. And suddenly, it feels worth it.

 In my garden:

  • I can’t control the weather, but I can give my plants protection.

  • I can’t force a seed to grow faster, but I can make sure it has sunlight, water, and time.

In business, it’s the same:

  • I can’t control the market, but I can build relationships with customers.

  • I can’t speed up awareness, but I can keep showing up with heart and honesty.

  • I can’t predict every outcome—but if I keep nurturing what I’ve started, growth comes.

This little patch of lettuce reminded me today: sometimes, success is quietly taking root beneath the surface. You may not see it yet — but it’s coming.

So whether you're planting a garden or growing a dream, don’t give up when you can’t see progress.

Keep watering. Keep believing. Keep going.

The best things often start small and green.

What are you growing right now—in your garden or your life?
